Mythical trolls are ugly, mean creatures typically living in caves or under bridges. Today’s trolls are deliberately provocative and offensive to others, causing disruption and argument. A trollop is a woman who is dirty, slovenly, untidy, and promiscuous.

The television is on; black waves wash people away; cyclones uproot houses; earthquakes break bridges; distraught faces plead and bodies huddle. But the sound is down. It’s background. It fills the space with flickers, nothing more. Clara cannot be moved. A great emptiness has swallowed her up.
