Queensland Theatre Company Young Playwrights’ Program

Queensland Theatre Company’s Young Playwrights’ Program supports and develops emerging Playwrights’ aged 13-30.
In 2012 we are calling for entries in three age categories:
Category 1 (Playwrights’ aged 13-15 years)
Applicants are asked to submit no more than approximately 30 minutes of written material.
Shortlisted works in this category will receive professional script assessment and feedback, and a certificate of achievement.
Category 2 (Playwrights’ aged 16-18 years)
Applicants are asked to submit no more than approximately 60 minutes of written material.
Shortlisted works in this category will receive professional script assessment and feedback and an in-house reading of their work by members of the Queensland Theatre Company Youth Ensemble .
Category 3 (Playwrights’ aged 19-30)
Applicants are asked to submit no more than approximately 120 minutes of written material.
Shortlisted works in this category will receive professional script assessment and development and a reading of their work by professional actors in front of an audience.
How to apply:
- Read the Terms and Conditions below.
- Submit the online application form before 1 June 2012.
- Submit your script and proof of age in the format outlined in Terms and Conditions below to jrlewis@queenslandtheatre.com.au before 1 June 2012.
- Await confirmation that your emailed script submission and online application form have been received. If you do not receive confirmation within 3 working days of submitting your online application form and script please contact Queensland Theatre Company.
Terms and Conditions:
- Category cut offs are determined by the applicants age on 1 June 2012
- The online application forms and email script submissions must be made before 1 June 2012. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Scripts must be accompanied with proof of age eg. Driver’s License, School ID, University ID etc.
- Scripts must be submitted in the following manner;
- PDF file format.
- Title page that includes the title of the script and applicants full name
- Please use size 11 Times New Roman font
- Please include page numbers, the title of the script and the applicants name in the footer of each page
- Please avoid attaching more than one PDF file to your submission email. Where possible proof of age should be included in the same file as the script and submitted together.
5. Applicants will only receive confirmation of their submission when all relevant material has been received including;
- Online application form
- Script
- Proof of age
6. Shortlisted writers will be notified by email no later than 2 July 2012.
7. Category 3 shortlisted writers are expected to be available from 24-27 September 2012 for the development and public reading of their work.
Young Playwrights Program winners for 2011
827 at 827 by Kealan Clinton

Kealan Clinton holds an Advance Diploma of Arts (Acting) from Southbank Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts (Applied Theatre) from Griffith University. As an actor he has performed in I Will Kiss You In 4 Places and The Truth About Kookaburras (Metro Arts Theatre), and The Inspector General, Jason and the Argonauts, I’m Coming To Cut Your Head Office, A Sweet Life, Bootcamp Royale 2 (Southbank Institute of Technology). He has appeared in the film Beautiville and is an Ambassador for La Boite Theatre. He is currently on secondment with Queensland Theatre Company, and this is his first play.
In Good Company by Bradley McCaw

Bradley McCaw has trained in voice, acting, dance, piano and guitar. He wrote and performed in Becoming Bill (Judith Wright Centre, Joymas Creative Production Company). For Ignations Theatre Company he has performed in Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, and Into The Woods, for Starlight Theatre Company Rent, and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, and for Meshpresents Tick Tick Boom. As a singer and soloist he has taken part in several concerts, including with the Ten Tenors 2004 international tour.
Limerence by Casey Woods

Casey Woods graduated with an Advanced Diploma of Arts (Acting) from the Southbank Institute of Technology in 2011. As an actor, during her studies, she performed in The Crucible, Blood Wedding, If You Go Into the Woods, Marat/Sade, Boot Camp Royale 3. She also performed in The Green Wizard for Brisbane Arts Theatre. Limerence is her first play. Casey is currently an Ambassador for La Boite Theatre.
