2020 Season Update | Queensland Theatre
01 May - 31 December

In a nutshell

Our Box Office team are contacting all ticket holders about important changes to our programming

These are extraordinary times. At Queensland Theatre we have shared your disappointment to see theatres closed and our artists cut off from our audiences, and we thank you for your patience as we have re-imagined our offerings for 2020.

As we’ve faced these challenges, our spirits have been buoyed by the genuine support we’ve received from our audiences, donors and sponsors. We are grateful for every dollar that has generously been donated so far to support the Company and our artists, creatives, crews and staff. Our community is truly remarkable.

It has taken us a little longer than we'd hoped to update you on our 2020 Season. We had a full year of productions set out, stretching from February to December which we’ve had to dismantle. We have been developing new ticketing solutions to support such large-scale disruption. We have been searching for the best possible outcome for our artists and audiences in a situation marked by uncertainty.

So, where to from here?

Our hope is that we can offer you a ‘mini-season’ from October, to see out a year that none of us will ever forget. It will ideally include Triple X, Prima Facie and past Queensland Premier’s Drama Award-winner The Holidays. If social distancing restrictions are relaxed to the point where we can re-open the Bille Brown Theatre, we will immediately commence ticketing transfers and new bookings for these productions.

Hard decisions have had to be made and we are unfortunately no longer able to deliver Othello, The Children, Phaedra and FIFTY! We share everyone’s disappointment that we will be missing these productions. Queensland Theatre and Brisbane Festival have had to postpone our world premiere of Tim McGarry’s hotly anticipated stage adaptation of the acclaimed novel Boy Swallows Universe by Queensland author Trent Dalton. We look forward to sharing all of the joy and heartbreak of Eli’s exhilarating story with you on stage during Brisbane Festival 2021.

All ticket holders will be contacted by our Box Office team to work through these adjustments as soon as we possibly can, and we again thank you for your patience and support.

In the meantime, if you receive our enewsletter or follow us on social media, you’ll have seen Queensland Theatre has been going digital with our Quality Time with QT program and The Scene Project reaching more (virtual) classrooms than ever through our Term 2 digital content. We look forward to sharing more online experiences with you in the months ahead.

Lee, Amanda and the Queensland Theatre team.
